Rough Opener For Barnes

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making the trek from North Dakota, Jayme Barnes and his Destiny Motorsports team kicked off their 2013 season in Ocala, FL with the All Star Circuit of Champions.

Though it wasn’t the weekend the team was hoping for, they are eager to return to the track this week.

“We got off to a rough start both nights, but I think we got a little better each night, and hopefully we can get our car in some main events next week,” Barnes said.

During qualifications both nights, Barnes turned in duel 27th quick efforts aboard his Mondak Portables/Rick Rogers Construction/Eagle Motorsports No.9b, putting him deep in heat race line ups.

On the opening lap of his Friday night heat, Barnes went low on the speedway, clipping the inside berm, and tipped his machine on its side. Though he was uninjured, he would retire into the pit area.

Making repairs for the B main, Barnes looked to get some laps under his belt, but unfortunately he had an oil leak surface, and he pulled off the speedway to prevent any further damage.

Saturday night, heat race action saw Barnes start eight and run in the seventh spot aboard his Speedmart Inc./Wesmar Racing Engines/Driver Websites backed entry, forcing him again to the B main.

Starting eighth in the B, Barnes needed to get inside the top four to transfer to the feature event, and on this night no issues arose and he was able to get in more laps.

On the slick track, the Washington state native had a nice run from eighth to fifth in the semi main, just narrowly missing out on the feature, but gaining some much needed confidence for the week ahead.

“Overall it was a rough weekend, but often times openers are a little rough,” Barnes said. “We started off struggling pretty bad, and by the end of the weekend, we got in some laps, figured out some things on our new eagle cars, and got moving forward a little bit.”

Jayme and his team would like to thank Mondak Portables, Rick Roger Construction, Eagle Motorsports, Speedmart, Wesmar Racing Engines, Driver Websites, and Benic Enterprises for their support through the 2013 season.

2013 BY THE NUMBERS: Starts-2, Wins-0, Top 5’s-0, Top 10’s-0
