Paul McMahan Looks Forward To California Swing

PETERSEN MEDIA: Though it has not been the start to the 2016 season Paul McMahan and his Destiny Motorsports team were hoping for, the California driver is looking forward to getting back to the Golden State for an extended trip that kicks off this weekend.

“We had a tough weekend of racing, but nobody is quitting on this team yet,” Paul McMahan said. “Our California swing kicks off this weekend, and it is a trip I look forward to, and I am hoping we can hone in on some things and get this car dialed in.”

Finding the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine lined up ninth in the Thursday night B Main at the Las Vegas Dirt Track, the Nashville, TN resident had his elbows up as he carved his way forward and into a transfer spot.

Lining up scratch on the field, the surface in the feature event was not conducive to passing, and McMahan would get what he could as he finished in the 20th spot.

Picking up a fifth place finish in his Friday night heat race, McMahan would line up in the 10th row for the 30-lap A Main. On a track that was more racy than Friday night, McMahan would battle with Jason Sides and Aaron Reutzel around the ½ mile speedway.

When the dust settled on the feature event, McMahan took the checkered with a 15th place finish.

Heading to the Arizona Speedway on Sunday night, McMahan and company had speed early in the night, but a brake issue during qualifying time trials would hamper him, and put him in a hole for the rest of the night.

Timing in 22nd fastest, McMahan would finish second in the B Main, putting him 20th in the feature event. From the back of the pack, McMahan was able to work his way forward at times on the slick speedway, where he would end up in the 16th starting spot.

“I thought we had a good car when the night got started on Sunday night, but we had an issue in time trials and that really hampered us,” McMahan said. “We will work on some stuff this week, and hopefully come out strong in Tulare, CA.”

Following the weekend of racing, Destiny Motorsports crew chief, Scott Benic will undergo surgery on his back and will be away from the team for at least one month. The entire Destiny Motorsports team wishes Scott a speedy recovery.
