Continued Hard Work Pays Off For Destiny Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA: Paul McMahan and the Destiny Motorsports team’s hard work is starting to show, as the weekend of racing with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series saw the team turn in their strongest showing of the season.

“We are getting there,” Paul McMahan said. “We had a lot of positive things come out of the weekend, and I just wish we could have held on to finish where we ran most of the race on Saturday night, but that’s racing.”

Returning to the Ocean Speedway in Watsonville, CA on Friday night for the first time since the 2007 season, McMahan would go out late in qualifying time trials and still manage to lay down the 10th fastest lap of the night.

Starting in the second row of his heat race, the Elk Grove, CA native turned Nashville, TN resident would finish third aboard the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises No. 7 machine which would line him up in the seventh spot for the 35-lap feature event.

A tight racetrack would see McMahan hold his own in the seventh spot as he battled with Jason Johnson and Kerry Madsen. On this night, double file restarts would not work out for McMahan as he seemed to be in the wrong lane on a pair of occasions and it would result in him losing a few spots and slipping back to the 11th spot where he would finish.

Heading to the Silver Dollar Speedway on Saturday night, McMahan came out swinging early in the night as he timed the Destiny Motorsports No. 7 machine in second fastest in time trials and went on to pick up his first heat race win of the season.

Earning a spot in the Dash, a third place finish would place him in the second row for the 40-lap A Main event. Hanging in the Top-five for much of the race, McMahan would battle with Tyler Walker and Kerry Madsen as the trio raced wheel to wheel battling for position.

Continuing to run in the Top-Five, contact on a restart would see McMahan get a flat tire and bring his machine to a stop late in the race atop turn four.

Restarting from the tail end of the field, McMahan would end his Mini Gold Cup with an 18th place showing.

“I hate it for my guys and everyone that supports this race team,” McMahan said. “It was shaping up to be a great night for us, and a night that was going to reward a lot of hard work. I mean, it still is a huge shot in the arm for us, but we would have definitely liked to finish up there.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft.
