Paul McMahan Races Well With The World of Outlaws

PETERSEN MEDIA: Paul McMahan and his Destiny Motorsports team raced well over the last week, and it was a week that McMahan feels the team can build on.

“We raced extremely well all week long, we just really couldn’t get a good lap in time trials, and that tends to make us start deeper than preferred in these feature events,” McMahan said. “I thought we were really good in all three feature events, and I think the best car we have had all year was Saturday night.”

At the I-80 Speedway in Greenwood, NE, McMahan would time the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Benic Enterprises backed No. 7 machine in 15th fastest.

Lining up in the third row of his heat race, McMahan’s fifth place finish would line him up in the 15th spot of the 30-lap A Main event. In the feature event, McMahan came alive. From his eighth row starting spot, the Nashville, TN driver had his elbows up as he worked around the 4/10 mile facility.

Working into the Top-10 late in the feature, McMahan would take the checkered flag in the ninth spot.

Heading to the Jackson Motorplex on Friday night, McMahan would improve on his qualifying effort has he would time in 12th fastest on this night. Finishing fifth in his heat race, McMahan would find himself back in the 20th starting spot for the 30-lap feature event.

On the revamped ½ mile speedway, McMahan would show some speed during the feature event as he patiently worked his way through the field. Finding himself up near the Top-10 in the race’s closing laps, McMahan would make a late move to secure a 10th place finish at the finish line.

Saturday night saw the series head to the Beaver Dam Raceway in Beaver Dam, WI where McMahan would time in even better on this night as he stopped the clock with the 10th fastest lap of the night.

Lining up in the second row of his heat race, McMahan would slip back to finish in the fifth spot, which ultimately placed the California native in the seventh row of the feature event.

When the race came to life McMahan got off to a great start as it appeared he had a very strong Rick Rogers Construction/Boss Signs and Graphics/Maxim Chassis entry. Quickly working into the Top-10, McMahan continued to work his way forward as he got up as high as the sixth spot.
Running sixth, McMahan would cut down a right front tire in the latter stages of the race, and it would make his car a bit of a handful. Riding it out as long as he could, McMahan would head to the work area when the red flag flew with just two laps to go.

Going to the back of the lead lap cars, McMahan would salvage the night with an 11th place finish.

“Weekends like this are good for our team,” McMahan said. “We raced very well in the feature event, now we just have to see what we can do to pick up time trials and heat races, and I think we will be okay. These races are tough to come forward form the back of the pack, so to show we could do that is something, for sure.”
