Destiny Motorsports Has Speed at Salina

PETERSEN MEDIA: After enduring engine trouble on Friday night at Lakeside, Paul McMahan and the Destiny Motorsports team looked to be on their way to a Top-10 finish at Salina Highbanks but a shredded right rear on the race’s final lap relegated the team to finishing in the 13th spot.

“We just keep working hard, and keep hoping that this stuff stops happening to us,” Paul McMahan said. “We have actually felt pretty good the last few weeks but unfortunately we have nothing to show for it.”

After timing in 13th fastest and running third in his heat race at Lakeside Speedway, McMahan lined up in the fourth row of the feature event. Getting off to a nice start in the Friday night feature event, engine issues would end up bringing the team’s night to an end on the 14th lap.

Traveling to Salina Highbanks on Saturday night, McMahan would time the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Rick Rogers Construction No. 7 entry in 14th fastest.

Forced into the ‘B’ Main, McMahan would have a strong showing that saw him pick up the win and give him a spot in the 30-lap feature event. Lining up in the 10th row, McMahan continued to show the same speed that he showed in the semi as he began working his way forward.

On a racy Salina Highbanks, McMahan would work his way up into the 10th spot in the race’s closing laps. On the final lap of the race, McMahan would have tire issues and take his machine into the work area.

Able to make repairs, McMahan was able to restart the race and end up with a 13th place finish.

“I thought we did a really nice job of getting through the semi, and using that to get us pretty good for the feature event,” McMahan added. “It would have been nice to finish the night off strong, but we will move on to Charlotte and see if we can put together two nice runs to ends this year.”
