PETERSEN MEDIA: When the racing action came to a close on Saturday night in Charlotte, NC it brought the end to the 2016 season. Though it was not the year Paul McMahan and Destiny Motorsports was hoping for, McMahan and company showed grit as they took their lumps and forged ahead.

“We saw a little bit of everything in 2016,” Paul McMahan said. “It was a tough season on everyone involved with this organization, but I can say that nobody gave up and quit, and I am very proud of that.”

Getting started on January 1st out in AZ, the 2016 season would come to a close Saturday night with the team’s 90th race of the season.

“We definitely got better as the year rolled on,” McMahan added. “We had some bad luck on some nights, and some nights we just struggled. I would be lying if I said it didn’t get frustrating, but I know we were all frustrated at times but we still were able to make the best of it and keep working.”

During the season ending World Finals, McMahan and company would take part in a very torrid battle for the final transfer position in their Friday night heat race. With a large car count, McMahan’s fourth place finish would force him into the Friday night Last Chance Showdown.

Lining up in the third row of the ‘LCS’, McMahan would do all he could to transfer into the feature event as he would execute a last lap pass to do just that before finishing 22nd in the feature event.

Back in action on Saturday night for race No. 90, the loss of a few cars would push the format back down to four 12-car heat races.

A seventh place finish in heat race action would put McMahan in the seventh row of the final ‘LCS’ of the season. Able to work his way forward, McMahan’s ninth place finish would not be enough to move him into the feature event, but with a provisional in his pocket the team would take part in the final ‘A’ of the season where they would finish in the 22nd spot.

“Rick and Barb Rogers sure love this sport, and I thank them for sticking behind this team,” McMahan added. “We will all do everything in our power this winter to address some issues, and hopefully get off to a good start come February. This is a team sport, and I have to thank all of my guys and all of our partners for their continued support this season.”
