Engine Issues Slow Paul McMahan at 81 Speedway

PETERSEN MEDIA: Dodging raindrops in the Midwest, Paul McMahan got back to work over the weekend for two nights of action. Finishing 15th at Missouri State Fair Speedway on Friday night, engine issues would slow the team on Saturday night at 81 Speedway.

“We definitely didn’t need the issues we had on Saturday night,” Paul McMahan said. “It was a tough weekend, but there isn’t any quit in these guys.”

Taking to the biggest track on the 2017 schedule on Friday night in Sedalia, MO, McMahan would open the night up by timing the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants backed No. 4 sprinter in 18th fastest.

Starting and finishing fifth in heat race action, the Nashville, TN driver would punch a direct ticket into the 25-lap feature event. Lining up in the seventh row of the feature, McMahan would spend much of the racing Jason Sides in what was a fast paced race.

Fighting in the Top-15 for the duration of the feature event, McMahan would end up taking the checkered flag in the 15th position.

Heading to 81 Speedway in Wichita, KS on Saturday night, McMahan would get off to a bit of a sluggish start as he would time the Champion Brand Lubricants/All Star Performance/KSE Racing Products machine in 20th quickest in time trials.

Going from seventh to sixth in heat race action, McMahan would take the Destiny Motorsports entry directly to the 30-lap feature event where he would grid the field from the ninth row.

When the feature event came to life, McMahan would slowly pick up a few positions as he raced around the 81 Speedway. On the 17th lap however, things went south for the Destiny Motorsports team as McMahan came to a stop with engine issues.

“It’s getting into that busy time of the year, and you really hope you can avoid having engine trouble,” McMahan said. “Unfortunately it got us, but these guys will keep working hard and we will get ready for Eldora.”
