PETERSEN MEDIA: Checking in at Knoxville Raceway over the weekend with the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car Series, Paul McMahan would come away with a 14th place finish.

“We were 14th but we got racing pretty well on Saturday night,” Paul McMahan noted. “Restarts killed us, but it was a good stepping stone of a big ½ mile.”

Following a tough outing on Friday night that saw the Nashville, TN resident finish 14th on a rubber down surface, McMahan came out quick on Saturday night as he timed in sixth fastest in his qualifying flight.

Starting and finishing third in his heat race, McMahan would move directly into the 25-lap feature event where he gridded the field from the 12th starting position. As the race came to life, McMahan ran well as he battled in a pack fighting for position inside the Top-10.

As laps clicked off, McMahan came oh-so-close to being collected with a spinning car, but was able to keep the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants No. 4 machine out of harms way.

The ensuing restart would see McMahan struggle to get going as he would lose a couple of positions as he was slow to get back up to speed. Able to pick a couple of lost positions back up as the race got back into a flow, McMahan would take the checkered flag with a 14th place finish at the Sprint Car Capital of the World.

“I think our car was a lot better than our result shows on Saturday night,” McMahan added. “Restarts were tough on us. We about crashed and fell back several spots, and we were able to work back up to finish 14th.”
