Frustrating Week For Paul McMahan and Destiny Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA: Looking to build off of a couple of Top-10’s from last week, Paul McMahan and Destiny Motorsports were in good position on three occasions with the World of Outlaws, though a parts failure, mother nature, and a flat tire hindered their results.

“When things are looking to head in the right direction and these things happen, you kind of don’t know what to say,” Paul McMahan explained. “We were extremely fast at all three tracks, but luck just was not on our side.”

Tuesday night in Joliet, IL, McMahan would open the night up on a very good note as he timed the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants No. 4 machine in fourth fastest during qualifying time trials.

Grabbing the win during heat race action, the Nashville, TN resident would earn a spot in the all-important Dash where a second place finish would line him up on the front row of the 30-lap feature event.

Following the four-wide parade lap, McMahan would develop a vibration aboard his All Star Performance/KSE Racing Products/FK Indy backed entry. Trying to move forward despite the issue, McMahan would hang on for 16 laps until the U-Joint finally let go and he was forced to the pit area with a 22nd place finish.

Traveling to Deer Creek Speedway on Thursday night, McMahan and company would again get off to a nice start as the California native would time in eighth fastest during qualifying time trials.

Finishing third in his heat race, McMahan would move into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the eighth starting position. Jumping into the seventh spot in the opening three laps the red flag would be needed as a fellow competitor got upside down.

During the stoppage, the sky would open up and rain would begin to fall forcing officials to postpone the reaming 37-laps of the ‘A’ to Thursday night July 6th.

Saturday night would see the World of Outlaws Craftsman Sprint Car series make their way into Huron, SD as they were slated to compete at Dakota State Fair Speedway.

McMahan’s strong qualifying efforts would continue as he timed in fifth fastest in qualifying time trials before grabbing the win in his heat race.

Finishing fourth in the Dash, McMahan would line up in the second row for the 29-lap feature event.

Running in the fourth spot early in the feature on an extremely slick and abrasive surface, tires would become an issue as rubber went down on the speedway. Becoming a victim of a flat tire on the 21st lap, McMahan and team would not be granted any guaranteed time in the work area as the race had passed the halfway point.

Unable to make the call, McMahan and Destiny Motorsports would be scored in the 18th spot.

“We got a bit of a raw deal with the way things played out on Saturday night, but it was the hand we were dealt,” McMahan added. “The positive is we have a really fast racecar right now and things are finally starting to come together it seems. We will keep at it, and hope for some good luck to come our way.”

Destiny Motorsports would like to thank MonDak Portables, Ft. Union Supply and Trading, Champion Brand Lubricants, All Star Performance, KSE Racing Products, FK Indy, HRP, KPC, PPM Titanium, Chalk Stix, Wilwood, Keizer Wheels, Simpson, Petersen Media, My Race Pass, Speedway Engines, FK Rod Ends, Boss Signs and Graphics, Classic Ink, Brown and Miller Racing Solutions, Hoosier Tires North, and BulterBuilt for their continued support.
