Paul McMahan and Destiny Motorsports Take Two Top-10’s Out of Washington

PETERSEN MEDIA: Making it to the West Coast, Paul McMahan and the Destiny Motorsports team opened a three-week stay up by scoring two Top-10’s in Washington.

“We were pretty consistent all three nights,” McMahan said. “We went from 17th to 11th on Friday night and then we finished ninth and 10th on Saturday and Monday, so all in all it wasn’t a bad weekend for our team.”

Checking in at Skagit Speedway in Alger, WA on Friday night, McMahan would get off to a bit of a tough start as he timed the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants machine in 14th quickest in time trials.

Finishing sixth in his heat race, the Elk Grove, CA native turned Nashville, TN resident would move into the 30-lap feature event where he would find himself in the 17th starting position.

On an extremely racy Skagit Speedway, McMahan would do a nice job of working his way forward. Racing his way toward the Top-10, McMahan would take the checkered flag with an 11th place finish.

Returning to the track on Saturday night, McMahan would open the Outlaw Energy Showdown up by timing in 15th quickest in time trials before finishing fourth in his heat race.

Lining up in the sixth row for the 40-lap affair, McMahan was again pretty sporty in the feature event. Cracking the top-10 by the fifth lap, McMahan would work his way up to the seventh spot on the seventh lap.

Continuing to battle, McMahan would find himself running in the eighth position for a majority of the race. Falling back to 10th on the 35th lap, he would get by Logan Schuchart to take over the ninth position where he went on to finish.

Traveling to Elma, WA on Monday night for the final race of the Labor Day weekend, McMahan would time in 11th quickest in time trails and Gray’s Harbor Raceway.

Finishing fourth in the heat, McMahan would take the green flag from the 11th starting position as he looked to again race his way to another Top-10 finish.

Working into the 10th spot on the seventh lap McMahan would get as high as ninth on the 15th lap. A midrace restart would see McMahan get tight and lose several spots as he fell back as far as 13th.

With a good car under him, he would work back forward and get back into the top-10 on the 24th lap as he went on to finish 10th.

“I thought we raced really well, but time trials really set us back in heat races,” McMahan added. “I think if we can get timed in well, we can get into these dashes and put ourselves in position for even better finishes.”
