Rough Runs at Calistoga Speedway for Paul McMahan and Destiny Motorsports

PETERSEN MEDIA: In what was his final weekend as the fulltime driver of the Destiny Motorsports No. 4, Paul McMahan and team had a tough go at Calistoga Speedway as they struggled to find grip on the ½ mile.

“It was a tough weekend for everyone,” Paul McMahan said. “We made the announcement that the team would change after Calistoga Speedway, and then race wise we just couldn’t seem to do anything right. The boys worked hard an threw everything at it, so we have some work to do when we get home this week.”

Friday night, McMahan would get things kicked off by timing the MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/Champion Brand Lubricants machine in 15th quickest in qualifying time trials.

Going from fifth to fourth in his heat race, the Elk Grove, CA native turned Nashville, TN resident would punch his ticket into the feature event where he would take the green flag from the 12th starting position.

On the slick ½ mile speedway, McMahan would battle with the likes of California standouts DJ Netto and Cory Eliason as the fought tooth and nail to get inside the Top-10.

When the checkered flag flew on the 25-lapper, McMahan would end his night with a 13th place finish.

Saturday night got off to a bit of a tough start as rear end issues in time trials would see McMahan and company time in 17th quickest. On a fast surface in heat race action, McMahan would falter a little as he would slip back to finish seventh and be forced into the LCS.

Racing his way to a second place finish in the semi, McMahan would transfer into the feature where he would take the green flag from the 20th starting position. Making wholesale changes to the Destiny Motorsports machine before the feature, McMahan couldn’t make anything happen in the feature and ultimately pulled off early and would be credited with a 24th place finish.

“It was just a tough weekend for us,” McMahan said. “The guys worked hard, and I have to thank them for that. With it marking my last time driving for Rick and Barb Rogers, I really want to thank them again for everything. My new position with the team will be a little different but hopefully we can work together with Parker Price-Miller and get this thing going.”
