Terry McCarl Second at King of the 360 Event

PETERSEN MEDIA: Getting the 2020 season underway with Destiny Motorsports in Florida over the last two weeks, TMAC and company would make stops at Volusia Speedway Park, and East Bay Raceway Park, with a pair of second place runs highlighting the opening stretch of the season.

“Volusia was tricky for our team,” McCarl said. “It is such a tough place, and you have to really be on your game with so many top-notch cars in attendance. We worked hard, and I think we made some strides, bit you can get behind so fast there is you aren’t perfect in time trials.”

Running with both the All Stars and the World of Outlaws at VSP, McCarl would tweak on his MonDak Portables/Ft. Union Supply and Trading/TheSnowPlow.Com No. 4 machine as he finished sixth in the B Main.

Heading into World of Outlaws action that following Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, the Altoona, IA driver would race his way into the first feature event of the season and record a 21st place finish.

Issues on Saturday night relegated McCarl and company to pull off during the ‘B’ Main, before Sunday’s final event at the DIRTcar Nationals saw him pocket another 21st place finish.

The scene would then shift to Tampa, FL where McCarl would reunite with the All Star Circuit of Champions for two more nights of racing at East Bay Raceway Park.

Timing in seventh fastest overall in qualifying time trials, McCarl would lock the STC/JLT Ent./KC Breweries entry directly into the feature event where he rolled off the grid form the 13th starting position.

From the seventh row, TMAC was methodical on the tricky 3/8 mile track. Working his way into the Top-10, McCarl would his first Top-10 of the season by way of a seventh place result.

One final night of 410ci competition in Florida came on Tuesday night as McCarl would again get his night off to a very good start. Timing in 4th quickest overall in time trials, TMAC would then finish fourth in his heat race and follow that up with a third place finish in the Dash.

Lining up sixth in the feature event, TMAC would run well for the early goings of the race until he slowly drifted outside of the Top-10 and ended his night with a 12th place finish.

With Wednesday night off, McCarl and the Destiny Motorsports team would swap over to their 360ci package as they would gear up for the 2020 King of the 360 event, a race won by McCarl and company one year ago.

Lining up on the front row of his heat race on Thursday night, TMAC flexed his muscle early as he jumped to the lead and never looked back. Doing all he could with the pill draw format, McCarl’s win would put him in the feature event where he would line up from the eighth starting position.

Proving to know his way around ‘The Bay’, TMAC was masterful in his charge towards the front. Getting into second, McCarl would navigate through traffic but would simply run out of time in his pursuit of Mark Smith.

Rain on Friday cancelled the event, and Saturday night saw McCarl line up on the front row of the 40-lap feature event as he looked for his fifth King of the 360 crown.

Jumping out to the early lead, McCarl would soon feel pressure from Mark Smith and Aaron Reutzel. With Smith challenging in lapped traffic, McCarl was able to answer his advances until lap 14 when he would fall into second.

Chasing after Smith, McCarl would actually fall back to third on the 20th lap as Reutzel was able to use the top to get into the runner up spot.

McCarl would use a lap 26 restart to move into second, and in the closing laps simply couldn’t reel the leader in as he closed his trip out with a second consecutive second place finish.

“I love East Bay,” McCarl said. “It is one of my favorite tracks in the country because it is so demanding on both the driver and the crew and that makes it really fun. We ran well with our 410ci early in the week, and we had a really strong run during the two 360ci races. We came through the field really well on Thursday, but Mark Smith was just too far gone. Saturday night we were really good, but with a big cushion built up, it is awfully hard to keep Aaron Reutzel at bay and he did what he does and beat us flat out. Florida is a great trip, we have some great sponsors down here and its really an enjoyable way to kick our season off.
